Jay Shah lands in flag controversy

August 29, 2022 | < 1 min read

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary and Home Minister Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah rang up a controversy when he supposedly refused to accept the Indian tricolour at the Dubai stadium post the match between India and Pakistan.

A video that has gone viral shows a person offering Shah the Indian flag to wave as a symbol of victory after India snatched a thrilling last-over victory over arch-rival Pakistan in the countries’ opening fixture in the Asia Cup. He, however, seems to not agree to hold the flag and wave it.

The act has invited a lot of criticism across the country, with both opposition politicians and ordinary people seen on social media pointing fingers at the unpatriotic behaviour of the Shah scion.

Many have also drawn attention to the fact that the RSS, the BJP’s ideological fount, has always held the view of not accepting the national flag of independent India because of its traditional rivalry with the Congress and, by extension, the latter’s leading of the freedom movement. And therefore, people are saying, it is but natural for the son of Amit Shah to be disdainful of the national flag.
