The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged as the winners of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRF) by eight wickets in the final on Sunday, played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, to secure its third IPL championship, and its first since the 2014 season.

KKR exhibited championship-level performance throughout the season, and not just in the final. Leading the league table in the preliminaries, the team dominated the playoffs by triumphing in qualifier 1 and the final decisively.

Although KKR lost the toss on Sunday, its fortunes turned with captain Pat Cummins choosing to bat first. The team proceeded to restrict SRH to a mere 113 runs, marking the lowest score in an IPL final.

The subsequent chase was a smooth sailing as KKR secured victory with eight wickets in hand and 57 balls to spare, with Venkatesh Iyer’s exceptional half-century steering it to success.

Ultimately, the tournament showcased not just a one-sided final but a one-sided competition that reflected the resurgence of the original KKR.
