Ecuador overwhelms Qatar, wins 2-0
The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar began on November 20 with a glitzy opening ceremony at Al Bayt Stadium, half-an-hour journey from the capital Doha.
the first match was overshadowed by allegations of Qatar offering some of the Ecuador players money to lose the match but they were later said to emanate from a source well-known for spreading disinformation.
The match put paid to any such thing happening as Ecuador completely dominated a hapless Qatar, playing its first World Cup, and that too because of being the host country.
Enner Valencia scored a brace to help the La Tri win 2-0. His first goal, a fantastic effort, like the other two, was however disallowed for a teammate’s being in an off-side position.
