PhonePe launches Indus Appstore with focus on Indian languages, gaming

PhonePe Pvt. Ltd. on Wednesday, February 21, unveiled the Indus Appstore, a mobile application marketplace that does not charge developers any platform see or fees for in-app payments.

The long-standing issue of Google and Apple’s platform fees, ranging from 15 per cent to 30 per cent on all in-app purchases for online services, has been a point of contention for app developers.

According to a company statement, the platform hosts over 200,000 apps spanning 45 categories. Numerous Indian brands, including Zomato, Myntra, Domino’s, Flipkart, Dream11 and Swiggy, have already listed their apps on the Indus Appstore.

The marketplace will support English and 12 Indian languages and will not charge “app listing fees” for developers until March 2025.
