Insiders have disclosed that OpenAI is gearing up to unveil a cutting-edge artificial intelligence-powered search tool next Monday. This anticipated launch, although not yet confirmed, represents a significant stride in OpenAI’s ongoing competition with Google, the reigning champion of search technology, as per Reuters reports.

Both Bloomberg and The Information have shed light on OpenAI’s development efforts, supported by Microsoft, to create a search product poised to challenge Google’s dominance, alongside emerging players like Perplexity, an AI-driven search startup.

The timing of this announcement coincides with the kickoff of Google’s annual I/O conference on Tuesday, where a slew of AI-centric products is expected to be unveiled.

According to Bloomberg News, OpenAI’s forthcoming search product, an expansion of its ChatGPT AI tool, will empower ChatGPT to directly access online information and seamlessly integrate citations.

While industry pundits have recognised ChatGPT’s potential as an alternative for online information retrieval, it has grappled with issues regarding the accuracy and timeliness of web data. To address this, OpenAI has incorporated Microsoft’s Bing search engine for its premium users. In response, Google has introduced generative AI capabilities into its flagship search engine.
