The next tropical cyclone is forming in the Bay of Bengal, weeks after Midhili. This time it will be named Michaung, a name suggested by Myanmar as per the naming convention for cyclones forming in the northern Indian Ocean.

A well-marked low-pressure area has formed over the south-east Bay of Bengal and the adjoining southern Andaman Sea, which is expected to gradually intensify into a depression by November 30 and a cyclonic storm later soon after.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised fishers not to venture into those areas from November 30 to December 2.

The Odisha government has put seven coastal districts of the state on alert. The private weather website Skymet had stated on November 23 that Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Bengal are the states likely to be affected.
