Kolkata Airport scores high both nationally and internationally
Earning a profit of Rs 482.3 crore, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI Airport) in Kolkata (also called Kolkata Airport) emerged as India’s second-most profitable airport in FY 2022-23, according to a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha given by the Minister of State for Civil Aviation Gen (retd) VK Singh last month.
The airport was also the most profitable among those run by the government’s Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Kolkata Airport also has international success under its belt. According to a report released by aviation analytics provider Cirium, the airport achieved the ninth position in the Medium Airports category in 2023 in terms of On-Time Ranking, for the on-time departure of 83.91 per cent of flights. It is the only Indian airport in the top 10 in this category.
The data shared by VK Singh in Parliament showed Kolkata Airport had grown by 232 per cent in the last year. According to airport officials, this growth is the result of several factors like an increase in air traffic with a substantial increase in footfall, revenues from non-traffic heads and the use of renewable energy like solar power to reduce electrical expenses.
