Fifteen parties opposed to the BJP met at a conference today in Patna to chalk out a strategy for the 2024 general elections. The parties were brought together on a common platform by Bihar chief minister and Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) chief Nitish Kumar, who along with his deputy chief minister, Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Tejashwi Yadav had visited several state capitals over the last few months to meet leaders of parties.

All the top leaders spoke at a joint press conference after the meeting, the common refrain being the realisation of the need to come together for the greater good—in this case, the Lok Sabha elections next year, to oust the BJP after 10 years in power.

It was also announced that the next such joint meeting would take place in the second week of July, most probably on the 10th or 12th.

Three things were stressed on: the fact that all the parties are united, that they would fight unitedly and also, importantly, as said by Mamata Banerjee, not to describe the parties as opposition as they were equal citizens with those in power, and concerned about the well-being of the country just like anybody else.

In fact, it was stressed by several through various ways that, despite being the ruling party, it was the BJP’s actions which were dividing the people and were, therefore, detrimental to the well-being of the country.

The parties vowed to fight the BJP as one and to stand up against its vendetta which manifests in raids by Central agencies like CBI, ED and others.
