A selection from the photos posted by Kolkata Police on its Facebook page, requesting information on the miscreants (faces circled) who wreaked havoc on a peaceful protest by doctors and others at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata on the intervening night of August 14 and 15, by vandalising the hospital’s emergency building and other sites

The RG Kar Medical College and Hospital campus in Kolkata was transformed into a battle scene on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday as hooligans vandalised the campus, including the emergency building, and the stage from where the doctors have been protesting over the last seven days.

The vandalism took place as ‘Reclaim the Night’ protest rallies—organised to demand justice for the female postgraduate trainee doctor who was brutally raped and murdered last week—converged at the hospital from various parts of Kolkata.

The group of 40-50 miscreants broke through barricades, manhandled protesting doctors and damaged hospital property.

It was supposed to be a peaceful protest, like it was in other parts of Kolkata (like Jadavpur, College Street, Gariahat and others) and Bengal.

Several sources say the miscreants belonged to Left political organisations and that the vandalism was an attempt to discredit the government.

Kolkata Police has released a statement appealing for information on where to find certain suspects whose photos have been attached to the post, their faces circled.
