CM replaces top police & health officials, as promised

As promised yesterday by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the press conference after the long-awaited meeting with the protesting junior doctors, and as demanded by the latter as part of their five-point list of demands, the commissioner of police (CP) of Kolkata, deputy commissioner (North Division) (DC (North)) of Kolkata Police, director of health services (DHS) and director of medical education (DME) were replaced today.

The new holders of the posts are as follows:

CP, Kolkata: Manoj Kumar Verma, replacing Vineet Kumar Goyal
DC (North), Kolkata: Dipak Sarkar, replacing Abhishek Gupta
DHS: Dr Swapan Soren, replacing Dr Debashis Halder
DME: Dr Suparna Dutta (as OSD, Medical Education), replacing Dr Kaustav Nayak

Notices were issued to this effect by the Home and Hill Affairs Department and Health and Family Welfare Department, respectively.

After several postponements, the meeting between the chief minister and the group of junior doctors was finally held on September 16 a little after 5 pm at the former’s residence, where the doctors placed their five demands.

As was also demanded by the junior doctors’ forum, West Bengal Junior Doctors Front (WBJDF), the minutes of the meeting was issued, signed the 40 doctors representing WBJDF and Manoj Pant, Chief Secretary of Government of West Bengal.
