By-elections to two assembly constituencies of Bengal–Bhagwangola and Baranagar–are to be held during the Lok Sabha elections.
Elections for Bhagwangola have been scheduled in the third phase, on May 7, 2024, and for Baranagar on June 1, in the seventh phase of the general elections.
The Bhagwangola assembly constituency in Murshidabad district was left vacant after the sitting Trinamool Congress MLA Idris Ali passed away while the Baranagar MLA Tapas Roy, also from Trinamool Congress, resigned from his membership of the assembly and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
No date has yet again been declared for the Manicktala assembly constituency in north Kolkata, which has been lying vacant after the death of Trinamool MLA and erstwhile minister Sadhan Pandey owing to a judicial case against his election, alleging the misuse of state government agencies during the assembly elections in 2021.
