Trinamool to hold Brigade rally on March 10

February 26, 2024 | < 1 min read

Amid mounting criticism from the BJP and other opposition parties in the state regarding the Sandeshkhali issue, the ruling Trinamool Congress has announced a major rally at the iconic Brigade Parade Ground on March 10.

The rally aims to protest what the party perceives as discrimination by the Union government against the state’s social welfare projects.

Scheduled to address the rally are the Chairperson Mamata Banerjee and National General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee.

Abhishek Banerjee has labelled the rally as ‘Jana Garjan Sabha’ (‘Roar of the Masses’) in a post on X, emphasising its aim to expel “external troublemakers” from Bengal, a veiled reference to senior BJP leaders.

This announcement comes with just two weeks’ notice, following the announcement of three consecutive rallies by the BJP, on March 1, 2 and 8 in Arambag, Krishnanagar and Barasat, respectively, all of which are set to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi is also expected to meet with women from Sandeshkhali on March 8.
