Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty on Sunday captured the Indonesia Open, their, as well as an Indian pair’s, first Super 1000 badminton title. Super 1000 tournaments are the highest-ranked tournaments organised by Badminton World Federation (BWF), like the Grand Slams in tennis.

And the Istora Senayan arena in Jakarta is like the Wimbledon of badminton.

They did not just win the tournament, they did it by defeating the world-champion Malaysian pair of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, and that too n straight sets, 21-17, 21-18.

This was a big comeback for Satwik and Chirag, coming as it did after failing to win a single match at the Sudirman Cup and failing in the first round of the Singapore Open.

The BWF World Tour is divided into six levels: World Tour Finals, Super 1000, Super 750, Super 500, Super 300 and Super 100. The Super 1000 tournaments provide the highest ranking points.
