Rain could affect CWC semi at Eden
Rain could play spoilsport in the semi-final at Eden Gardens tomorrow. A well-marked low-pressure area has developed over the Bay of Bengal, which has moved westwards and concentrated into a depression today.
A bulletin issued by the Meteorological Department on Tuesday afternoon said “[e]nhanced rainfall activity very likely to occur between November 16 and 18 over the districts of south Bengal”.
“In Kolkata, rain is likely on both November 16 and 17. The intensity and spread of the rain is likely to go up on November 17,” GK Das, director, India Meteorological Department, Kolkata told The Telegraph.
The soil at Eden Gardens is relatively impermeable, which can make the ground slushy for a long time after rain stops. Sand has been injected to make it more permeable.
“If the showers are not very heavy, cricket can resume at Eden within 30 to 40 minutes of the rain stopping,” an official of the Cricket Association of Bengal told the same newspaper.
