Rahul ignores Karti – video goes viral
A video has gone viral, that has riled many netizens. It shows the former Congress MP Rahul Gandhi ignoring his party colleague and, till recently, fellow Lok Sabha MP, Karti Chidambaram while entering a meeting called by his party at Parliament House to protest his dismissal.
Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership was taken away after he was convicted in a defamation suit. Of course, his appeal against the ruling is pending in the Supreme Court.
The Congress says that it is a clear case of political vendetta by Narendra Modi, being unable to take the grilling via the media that Gandhi has been subjecting him to in recent weeks. Rahul’s latest weapon against Modi is questioning him over his close connection to Gautam Adani and the special benefits given to him by tweaking laws as a result of that, and daring him to come clean on it publicly.
This has been happening ever since US firm Hindenburg Research published a report alleging massive Indian stock market manipulation and accounting fraud by the Adani Group, that has enabled him to become one of the world’s richest persons and helped his companies become bigger.
But he is not barred from Parliament per se. So, on March 29, he had gone there to attend a meeting of his party, called to protest his disqualification from the House of the People.
Many were present in black shirts in solidarity with his fate, including Karti Chidambaram, the son of former Union finance minister P Chidambaram. While the senior Chidambaram is a Rajya Sabha MP, the son is a first-time Lok Sabha MP.
However, as seen in the viral video, Rahul side-stepped Karti when the latter went to shake his hands as he was entering the meeting. Being ignored, Karti busied himself with his phone while going down the steps.
Gandhi’s behaviour has annoyed many netizens. Some have expressed anger and surprise at his big ego, that too even after disqualification from the Lok Sabha. Others have commented on his pathetic body language and naked antagonism, being unable to make proper eye-contact.
Karti, reportedly, has not taken this nicely and is feeling insulted. The video going viral on social media has added to his insult, say people close to him, and he is said to be “tired of this”.
