Prior to third wave, Bengal considers inoculation of children against COVID-19

September 4, 2021 | < 1 min read

In view of the third wave of COVID-19, which is likely to affect children the most, the Bengal government recently communicated that the state could start a programme similar to the pulse polio drive to inoculate children against the viral infection.

The administration is currently considering whether children need to be vaccinated against viral disease.

Looking at the possibility of a third wave where children are at risk, the state requires 14 crore more doses, said the statement.

Assuring that that no one will be left behind in the vaccination drive, the government urged the people of the state to not rush to the inoculation centres and cause crowding, which is against the pandemic protocol.

The current shortage of vaccines in the state has been communicated to the Union Health Ministry, the government said.
