Preventive steps for dengue

November 11, 2022 | < 1 min read

Dengue has become a menace in Bengal for a few months now. It’s happening in other states too, but this year, the impact has been particularly strong in Bengal. The latest official numbers are hard to come by, an issue flagged repeatedly by the Union Health Ministry. But some sources say, over 50,000 have been infected this season.

So, what are the precautions you should take to prevent getting infected by the dengue virus?

Here are seven effective preventive steps:

Use mosquito repellent: Mosquito-repellent creams and liquids of well-known brands, mosquito patches and wipes, repellent wipes

Wear protective clothing: Keep the skin covered as much as possible

Use mosquito deterrents: Insecticide-treated bed nets, sealed windows, sticking cloves in lemons and oranges (the scent can deter mosquitoes), electronic vaporisers

Refrain from breeding grounds: Avoid stagnant pools; keep home clean and tidy (no accumulation of unwashed dishes and utensils, clean floors, etc.)

Avoid smells that attract mosquitoes: Shower often to remove sweat; use unscented perfumes and creams

Keep your home well-lit: Let the sun in as much as possible; keep windows and doors closed and covered with mosquito screens
