Following his arrest in the SSC scam, Partha Chatterjee was, on Thursday, July 28, removed from all ministerships as well as party posts.

He was one of the most senior ministers as well as the number three in the Trinamool Congress structure, being the secretary-general, after Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. Earlier this year, he was also appointed the national vice-president.

In the Bengal cabinet, he held the crucial portfolios of commerce and industry, public enterprises, information technology and electronics, and parliamentary affairs.

Besides these posts, Partha Chatterjee also held the post of editor of the party mouthpiece, Jago Bangla.

The decision on removing him from all party posts was announced yesterday evening by Abhishek Banerjee, the party’s national general secretary, after a disciplinary committee meeting.

“It has been decided that Partha Chatterjee will be removed from all party posts. He will remain suspended from the party till the investigation is over,” Banerjee said. He, however, also said the party demands “the investigation be completed within a limited time frame”.

Partha Chatterjee was removed as minister earlier in the day.
