Panchayat election results: Trinamool wins overwhelmingly, counting for some seats left

Trinamool Congress won an overwhelming number of seats in all three tiers of the panchayat system in Bengal for which elections were held.

Party chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed a press conference today congratulating everyone concerned for the victory. She also attacked the BJP for its political vendetta against opposition parties and for using draconian laws to harass and incarcerate those not in agreement with its views.

The counting, which began at 8 am on Tuesday, is still underway but as per reports, Trinamool Congress has the majority of the seats in all the three tiers.

Gram panchayat – 63,229 seats

Trinamool has won 34,560 and is leading in 705
BJP has won 9,621 and is leading in 169
CPI(M) has won 2,908 and is leading in 86
Congress won 2,515 and is leading in 71

Panchayat samiti – 9,728 seats

Trinamool has won 2,612 and is leading in 627
BJP has won 275 and is leading in 149
CPI(M) has won 63 and is leading in 53
Congress has won 50 and is leading in 26

Zillla parishad – 928 seats

Trinamool has won 592 and is leading in 188
BJP has won 18 and is leading in 9
Congress has won 6 and is leading in 7
CPI(M) has won 2 and is leading in 1
