NTA at it again–Cancels UGC-NET, allegations of irregularities rise
The Ministry of Education, on Wednesday, June 19 cancelled the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 18 following inputs suggesting the examination’s integrity may have been compromised.
The UGC-NET is a nationwide examination administered by the UGC (an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education) and conducted by the NTA, and held every June and December, to select assistant professors in universities and colleges and award Junior Research Fellowships (JRF).
The matter has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the ministry for a thorough investigation following information provided by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) on Wednesday, indicating potential compromises.
A new examination will be scheduled, the details of which will be communicated later.
This decision comes amid allegations of a massive scam in conducting the NEET examination, casting doubts on the sanctity of the NTA.
