New Year gift for Bengal: Sealdah-Balurghat Express
On Monday, the first day of 2024, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the new Balurghat-Sealdah Express and highlighted that the fund allocation for Indian Railways in Bengal had risen to Rs 11,970 crore over the past nine years.
Additionally, he noted that more than 61 projects were stalled due to insufficient support.
The train will operate daily, making stops at 13 stations—Naihati, Bandel, Nabadwip Dham, Katwa, Azimganj, Jangipur Road, New Farakka, Malda Town, Eklakhi, Gazole, Buniadpur, Gangarampur and Rampur.
Many observers perceive the introduction of a direct train connecting Kolkata and the district of Dakshin Dinajpur, a demand long voiced by its residents, as an effort by the saffron camp to maintain its support for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
