The new Parliament building will be inaugurated later this month to coincide with the completion of nine years of the Modi Government, according to reports.

The building of the Parliament, along with other portions of the government’s grand Central Vista project, started in 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a huge controversy due to the fact of Rs 20,000 crore being allocated to something which was of secondary importance to fighting the pandemic, which had engulfed the whole country in a very short time.

The building did go on, however, even after scathing criticism from, among others, a large portion of the Opposition MPs, who would come to share it as well.

The latest news is that the new building, which has been touted as Narendra Modi’s dream project, is about to be completed. The building is triangle-shaped, as opposed to the circular current building, opposite which it is located.

The building, whose foundation stone was laid by the prime minister in December 2020, is likely to be inaugurated by him on May 28. He took oath as the prime minister on May 26, 2014.

The four-storey building has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 970 crore. It can house 1,224 MPs.

The building has three doors—Gyan Dwar (‘Door of Knowledge’), Shakti Dwar (‘Door of Power’) and Karma Dwar (‘Door of Duty’), separate entries for MPs, VIPs and visitors, a grand Constitution Hall to showcase the country’s democratic heritage, dining areas and ample parking space.
