New Kolkata Metro lines to be operational from March 15

The commercial services on the three recently inaugurated stretches of the Kolkata Metro are scheduled to start from Friday, March 15. They were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 6.

The new stretches encompass the long-awaited Howrah Maidan-to-Esplanade section of the Green Line, the Kavi Subhash-to-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay stretch of the Orange Line and the Taratala-to-Majerhat section of the Purple Line.

Trains will operate at intervals of 12 minutes (during peak hours) and 15 minutes (during non-peak hours) in both directions between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade stations, with the service, comprising 130 trains, running from 7 am to 9.45 pm, and the fare is set at Rs 10 per trip.

The Kavi Subhash-to-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay stretch along the EM Bypass will provide 48 daily services from Monday to Friday, running at intervals of 20 minutes between 9 am and 4.40 pm.

In the Joka-to-Majerhat section, commuters can expect 36 daily services from Monday to Friday, operating at intervals of 25 minutes from 8.30 am to 3.35 pm.

The first and last trains on all the routes would start at the same times from both ends.
