Maximum temperature in Kolkata starts dipping again
The maximum temperature in Kolkata has started to decrease once more, dropping more than two degrees below the usual level for the first time in over a week.
On Monday, the maximum temperature declined to 23.2°C, down from Sunday’s 24.6°C. Throughout most of the previous week, the temperature held steady at 26.4°C, approximately one degree higher than the typical December norm.
Concurrently, the minimum temperature has also commenced its descent, dropping from last week’s peak of 17.6°C to 16.2°C on Monday.
Following the movement of the cyclonic circulation away from the Bangladesh coast towards north-west Bay of Bengal, the previously dominant warm easterly winds over Kolkata altered their direction.
This change allowed cold north-westerly winds to re-enter the city, leading to a decline in both the maximum and minimum temperatures.
