From Friday, February 2, approximately 9.23 lakh students in Bengal started writing their class 10 state board examination. The Madhyamik examination is being held at 2,675 centres across the state.

Today’s examination involved first language papers, the languages being Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Modern Tibetan, Nepali, Odia, Gurmukhi (Punjabi), Telegu, Tamil, Urdu and Santhali.

Bringing admit cards is a must for students to be able to gain entry to examination centres.

The examinations this year are starting two hours earlier, at 9.45 am.

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education has ensured that every examination centre is equipped with CCTV cameras, and examinees are prohibited from bringing mobile phones, wristwatches and smartwatches.

To prevent the leakage of question papers through WhatsApp, something which has gained ground in recent times, the Board has introduced question papers with hidden serial numbers, which are specific to each candidate. So, if a question paper or a page from it is shared, the hidden serial number would reveal which particular candidate the paper belonged to.

These hidden serial numbers came into use on the very first day itself when the papers of two candidates from two schools in Malda district were cancelled after it came out that their papers were circulating on WhatsApp in various places in the district.

The state Transport Department has introduced special bus and tram services for the examinees along 12 routes—E6 from Esplanade to Amta, C2A from Tollygunge to Ghatakpukur, C7 from HM Ghosh College to Howrah Station, C8 from Barasat to Joka, C23 from Park Circus to Dankuni, C26 from Howrah to Baruipur, T3 from Rajabazar to Ghatakpukur, C37 from Amtala to Howrah, T8 from BBD Bag to Tikiapara, C29 from Barrackpore Court to Champadali, T10 from Rajabazar to Chaital and D1A from Barasat to Tollygunge.
