Geeta Koda, the sole Congress MP in Jharkhand, officially switched her allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. She cited dissatisfaction with the party’s alliances in the state as the reason for the move. Geeta Koda is the wife of former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda.

As a result of this move, Vijay Hansdak of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is now the sole representative in the Lok Sabha of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress alliance.

Her husband, the former CM Madhu Koda, embroiled in allegations of irregularities totaling Rs 4,000 crore in the 2017 coal block allocation case and convicted in a disproportionate assets case, has also joined the BJP.

BJP insiders foresee that Geeta’s inclusion, representing Singhbhum, will bolster the party’s prospects in the Kolhan division, encompassing the East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Saraikela Kharsawan districts. Notably, the BJP had failed to secure any seats in this region during the 2019 Assembly elections.
