In a jolt to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bengal, Jhargram Member of Parliament Kunar Hembram has declared that he is leaving the party. The MP has not made it clear why is he quitting just before the elections, only citing “personal reasons” behind his decision.

No name has declared by the BJP for the Jhargram parliamentary constituency (PC) in it’s first list, but it is being heard through sources that Hembram might have been dropped off when the candidate was declared, and that this could be the reason behind his resignation.

Hembram’s resignation comes at a time when the party’s Ranaghat MLA Dr Mukutmani Adhikari has joined the Trinamool Congress, after his name wasn’t declared as the party’s candidate from Ranaghat PC; instead, Jagannath Sarkar was repeated by the party leadership to contest from the seat.

Sources say, another sitting MP from the BJP belonging to north Bengal is all set to join the Trinamool Congress in the coming days.
