Come March, the renowned IT company Infosys is gearing up to initiate operations from its expansive 50-acre new campus in Kolkata’s satellite city of New Town, when it will mark 16 years of its presence in Bengal (starting 2008).

Overcoming various obstacles, the forthcoming launch is anticipated to catalyse growth and development, further solidifying Kolkata’s position in the IT sector.

At present, around 400 Infosys employees are based in a rented office in New Town, who, along with new recruitments are expected to occupy the new campus. Once fully operational, the company aims to station approximately 3,100 people there.

This move to establish a new campus reflects Infosys’ strategic approach of decentralising its operations to tap into local talent pools.

Following a comprehensive review meeting held at the campus on February 7, Information Technology and Electronics Minister Babul Supriyo expressed confidence in the imminent operationalising of the campus.

As per a report submitted to the state-level Environment Impact Assessment Authority in 2021, the total investment in the project is around Rs 600 crore.
