In an exclusive to a leading Bengali news channel, Calcutta High Court judge Justice Abhijit Ganguly has declared that he will “resign” from his post on Tuesday and join politics.

He said that the ruling party of Bengal (Trinamool Congress) has, time and again, challenged him to “fight on the field”. His decision to leave the judiciary and join organisational politics has been fuelled by that, he said.

When asked about the political party he wishes to join, he said that he may join either of the big three–CPI(M), Congress and BJP or any other smaller party

Of they deem him worthy to contest the upcoming General Elections. He yet again termed Trinamool Congress’ rule over Bengal as a “congregation of thieves” and a “government of robbers.”

Justice Ganguly has been grabbing headlines since 2022, when cases of corruption were kept on his desk, and which implicated top Trinamool leaders.

He has many a times given politically charged statements in public, against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as well as Trinamool’s second-in-command Abhishek Banerjee.

His drastic steps to “curb corruption” have fantasized many, and he has often been termed a “crusader against corruption.”
