The world came to a standstill following the COVID-19 pandemic, which started in 2019. Everything may seem normal now, but the probability of a third wave of infections still looms over our heads.

Amidst all this, two educational institutions of Bengal—Jadavpur University (JU) and National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur—have excelled in providing placements to their students.

While some students of JU have got annual salary packages of Rs 58 lakh per annum, and some students of NIT have been offered nearly Rs 44 lakh per annum packages.

Both the batches of students who have graduated this year, or will graduate next year (typically, many companies start come campus-calling after the third year itself, in order to get the best students early)) are undergoing online placement interviews.

Additionally, those who couldn’t get jobs last year are also giving interviews. Last year, also amidst the pandemic, 75 per cent of the students had been placed.

An Australian tech firm has hired three students of JU from Computer Science, Information Technology and Electronics and Telecommunications streams at an extraordinary pay package of Rs 58 lakh per annum.

As per JU authorities, the placements of those who will graduate next year has just begun, and in just nine days (as of September 2), 46 students have been offered placements with pay packages going up to nearly Rs 30 lakh per annum. Thirty-two students have got jobs with salaries ranging between Rs 18 lakh and 30 lakh per annum.

Several big companies are yet to arrive, there is much to look forward to for the students.

The placement scenario of NIT Durgapur is also very good, according to the authorities. Online interviews are going on for the last 22 days. A group of 19 students have got job offers with a pay package of Rs 44 lakh per annum, being recruited by an international technology company. Seventeen of them are from the Computer Science discipline, and two are students of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
