JU 4th among universities, St Xavier’s and RMV Centenary College also find place in top 10

There is good news for the education sector in Bengal. The latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking has ranked Jadavpur University (JU) 4th among universities.

The three universities above it are Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University and Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. In the overall ranking, these four universities are placed in similar order from 10th onwards, with seven IITs, IISc and AIIMS, New Delhi above it.

Among colleges, Bengal has two representatives in the top 10: St Xavier’s College, Kolkata at 5th and Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, Rahara at 8th.

Miranda College and Hindu College in Delhi and Presidency College in Chennai are in the top three in this category.

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is at the 5th spot among research institutions and engineering colleges. In the latter category, JU is 10th.

Among management institutes, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta is at the 4th spot.

The law institute ranking also has a representative from Bengal: The West Bengal National University of Juridicial Sciences at the 4th.

Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur in Howrah, formerly known as Bengal engineering College, is also in the top 10 among architecture institutes, being 10th.

Bidhan Chandra Krishi Vishwavidyalaya in Kalyani is 16th among agriculture universities.

Bengal has no representative in the ‘Innovation’ category.
