On June 30, India won its eighth Asian Kabaddi Championship title in its eighth final. The only time the country did not win was in 2003, when Iran defeated Malaysia in the final.

This time, India defeated Iran 42-32 in the final played at the Dong-Eui Institute of Technology Seokdang Cultural Center in Busan in South Korea. The two teams were giving it their all in the high-voltage encounter but India held on to eke out a win.

For the Men in Blue, Pawan Sehrawat especially shone in the final.

Iran, however, was the Asian Games champion in 2018 in Jakarta, where it had defeated India in the semi-final. The Hangzhou Asian Games, to be played from September 23 to October 8, will be India’s next biggest challenge.
