As per the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), hot and dry weather will prevail in large parts of northern and southern Bengal from June 1-7.

Temperature can shoot to as high as 3 degree Celsius above normal.

Places in West Burdwan, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Purulia, Malda, Murshidaband, Bankura, Birbhum, Jhargram, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur districts will experience heat wave-like conditions.

A new study by Cambridge University has put Bengal at number two on India’s heat index vulnerability list, which suggests the state has a very high chance of its progress towards sustainable development goal impeded by heat waves triggered by climate change.
