Grim flood situation in Assam

Devastating floods across 10 districts of northern Assam have affected nearly 1.2 lakh people stranded, with 444 villages underwater.

With incessant rain in several parts of the state, the flood situation in Assam is grim till now. Around 444 villages in 10 districts are underwater, with nearly 1.2 lakh people hit by the deluge.

‘Very heavy’ to ‘extremely heavy’ rainfall has been predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) across several districts over the next few days. As a result, IMD has issued an ‘orange alert’, implying people need to be prepared for action.

According to a flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Nalbari is the worst hit with almost 45,000 people suffering, followed by Baksa with over 26,500 and Lakhimpur with more than 25,000.
