Ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas passes away
Renowned music icon and recipient of the Padma Shri award, Pankaj Udhas, breathed his last today. The esteemed ghazal maestro, celebrated for classics such as “Chitti Ayi Hai” and “Chandi Jai Rang’, succumbed to a prolonged illness. According to The Hindu, he passed away at 11 am at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
His timeless ghazals including ‘Chandani Raat Mein’, ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhaar’, ‘Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein’, ‘Ek Taraf Uska Ghar’ and ‘Thodi Thodi Piya Karo’ continue to resonate with audiences.
Udhas captivated audiences worldwide with his performances and left a lasting legacy through numerous albums.
He first came to worldwide attention after his concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1984, whose recording was also released as an album called ‘Pankaj Udhas Live at Royal Albert Hall’ the same year.
The last rites are scheduled for Tuesday.
