Foreign investment grows in Bengal
Bengal attracts greater foreign investment during lockdown
Despite the economic downturn due to the covid-19 pandemic foreign investment has increased in Bengal.
According to a report by the Ministry of Commerce, Bengal has wooed Rs 1,927 crore worth foreign investment in the months from April to June, which is Rs 767 crore more than that in 2019.
The investment in the six months from October last year to March this year was Rs 1,363 crore. According to Central data it has increased by another Rs 566 crore during the lockdown.
Small and medium enterprises are ideal for mass employment. Industry officials say that most foreign investment in the State has come from this sector.
In the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ competition organized by the World Bank, Bengal has stepped to the forefront in the last few years.
According to experts, these have helped the state to attract investment.
