Dum Dum has apparently become BJP’s testing lab to field actresses with moderate popularity in elections, ensuring big wins for the Trinamool Congress.

BJP sources say the party is mulling on fielding Bengali film actress and former All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) MLA from Raidighi (in South 24 Parganas), Debashree Roy from Dum Dum to challenge sitting AITC MP Saugata Roy.

While there has been radio silence on the matter in the top echelons of the party, fielding Debashree Roy from Dum Dum could prove as disastrous for the lotus brigade as was fielding Parno Mitra from Baranagar or Srabanti Chatterjee from Behala Paschim in the 2021 Assembly elections.

Debashree Roy was reportedly quoted after the Amphan cyclone, which ravaged major parts of southern Bengal, as saying that she was feeding hundreds of dogs in Kolkata, in response to the question of whether she would be visiting her constituency.
