Who would have known that two of the best sides would be in such dire straits. What could have been a very important match at the Eden Gardens turned out to be inconsequential as England and Pakistan were both out of the Cricket World Cup.

But perhaps legendary Rolling Stones frontman from Britain, Mick Jagger’s meeting up the England players before the match and then cheering from the stands had an effect: the team put up a very competitive 337, and then bowled out India’s neighbour for 244.

Thus, defending champions England, which had begun with a loss, ended its 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup campaign with a win, while the opposite was true for the men in green.

Fast bowler David Willey of England was chosen as the Player of the Match for his match-winning spell of three wickets for 56 runs in 10 overs.
