The Durga Puja Carnival, synonymous with Kolkata, will be organised outside the state capital for the first time this year. October 26 will see the carnival being held in the industrial city of Asansol.

It will be held on GT Road, from Rabindra Bhavan at BNR More to Bhagat Singh More, in the heart of the city. All the puja committees of Asansol will participate in the carnival, state minister Malay Ghatak, who is an Asansol-based MLA, said.

On Wednesday, he helmed a meeting of the MLAs, and senior police and district administration officials of the region at the circuit house in Asansol to discuss the details on the holding of the carnival.

The Asansol Durga Puja Carnival will be held under the patronage of Asansol MP Shatrughan Sinha, who is the chairman of the carnival.
