The second edition of Duare Sarkar was also a big hit, like the first one, with the highest number of applications received for the new scheme, Lakshmir Bhandar

The Bengal government’s flagship programme, Duare Sarkar’s second edition came to an end on September 15. The programme had started from August 16.

This time too, like the first time, the people of the state wholeheartedly participated in it, with a total of 3 crore 72 lakh 57 thousand 35 people registering at 91,895 camps, which ran across the length and breadth of the state for a month.

The biggest hit of all the schemes the people availed at the camps was undoubtedly Lakshmir Bhandar—over 1.79 crore applied for it, to be precise, 1,79,26,368 people applied for the scheme. The next most applied for scheme was Swasthya Sathi, another of the government’s flagship schemes, which received 64,31,951 applications.

While 27,86,894 people applied for caste certificates, 27,87,607 people applied for the scheme for subsidised foodgrains, Khadya Sathi. For Krishak Bandhu (New), the improved version of last year’s Krishak Bandhu for famers, 12,80,000.

Besides these major ones, another 60,44,215 applications were dropped for schemes like Aikyashree, Rupashree, Kanyashree, Student Credit Card and a few others.

Officials are hinting towards further Duare Sarkar camps in places which have currently been hit by floods. Also, the camps had to be shut down in Bhawanipore in Kolkata, and Jangipur and Samsherganj in Murshidabad district owing to the model code of conduct coming into effect because of the Election Commission’s announcements of by-elections.

While Swasthya Sathi was the major crowd-puller in the first edition of the programme, Lakshmir Bhandar was the biggest hit in the second one. The government has promised to bring the third edition in a few months’ time.
