Days of high temp set to be back in Bengal
The days of extreme heat are set to return to Bengal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), over the next five days, the maximum temperature in the southern part of the state is set to rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius (˚C) to reach as high as 40˚C.
Moreover, except North 24-Parganas and South 24-Parganas, where light rain has been predicted, all the districts are likely to experience dry weather.
In southern Bengal, the maximum temperature in Bardhaman, Canning, Panagharh, Barrackpore and Jhargram are now hovering around 36–37 °C, and a degree or so less in Berhampur, Bankura and Sriniketan, as measured by the IMD’s weather stations.
On Tuesday, Raiganj in Uttar Dinajpur district recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 39.7 ˚C. Kolkata recorded a maximum of 35 ˚C today.
