Cosmic Birla Group, newly venturing into the electric mobility sector, is strategising to establish a manufacturing facility in Bengal dedicated to the production of electric two-wheelers. The proposed capacity of the Bengal plant will be approximately 15,000 vehicles per year.

The group’s entry into the electric mobility sector commenced six months ago with the acquisition of Raft Motors, based in Maharashtra.

Aditya Vikram Birla, Chairman and Managing Director of the company, revealed recently that it is in the process of establishing a new production facility in Domjur in Howrah district within the next three to four months. Land acquisition has been completed, and construction of the plant is underway. “The total investment for this facility is estimated to be around Rs 50 crore, focusing on the production of electric two-wheelers,” Birla said.

Additionally, the Kolkata-based conglomerate is aiming to venture into the electric three-wheeler and electric car segments within the commercial vehicles domain. Its initial focus is on commencing production of three-wheelers in the 2026–27 fiscal.
