Ayodhya District Magistrate Nitish Kumar has announced that the American fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) can establish outlets in Ayodhya, but within the restricted zone, the Panch Kosi Marg, the outlets must exclusively offer vegetarian items.

KFC, renowned for its fried chicken menu, can sell its non-vegetarian fare outside the restricted area.

The Ayodhya administration has enforced a ban on the sale of liquor and non-vegetarian items within the Panch Kosi Marg, a 15-km pilgrimage circuit surrounding the Ram Temple precincts.

Enterprises, particularly those from the food and hospitality sector, are poised for a substantial uptick in revenue as Ayodhya undergoes a transition into a prominent religious destination, now in competition with other major pilgrimage centres.

This shift follows the inauguration of the Ram Mandir on January 22 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
