Books worth Rs 27 cr sold at International Kolkata Book Fair

The 47th International Kolkata Book Fair held at Boimela Prangan in Salt Lake achieved new milestones in book sales and attendance.

An unprecedented Rs 27 crore worth of books were sold, Rs 2 crore more than last year’s edition.

Another record was created in single-day attendance, with approximately 2.9 million attending the event on January 31, the last day, Last year’s highest was 2.5 million.

These numbers were revealed by Tridib Kumar Chatterjee, the president of the organiser, Booksellers and Publishers Guild: “Over 2.8 million people attended the fair on January 30, and we believe the turnout on the final day exceeded 2.9 million. The book sales soared to an impressive Rs 27 crore, setting a new benchmark for the Kolkata Book Fair.”
