Following the withdrawal of support by three Independent MLAs from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana earlier this week, Dushyant Chautala, the leader of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and former deputy chief minister, wrote a letter to the governor on Thursday, clarifying that his party no longer supports the BJP government and is willing to align with any other political party in the state for government formation.

Chautala, who is also the senior national vice-president of the JJP, also requested the governor to instruct the BJP government to demonstrate its majority on the floor of the House.

This communication to the governor followed Chautala’s offer made the day before to potentially provide external support to the Congress party in Haryana to overthrow the BJP government.

Referring to the departure of three Independent MLAs and the two vacant assembly seats, Chautala emphasised in his letter that these developments, combined with the clear position of his party, signify that the current government no longer holds a majority in the legislative assembly.
