Bengal: Who are the stars likely to miss the Trinamool bus in 2024?

January 5, 2024 | 2 min read

Trinamool Congress has its fair share of stars from the world of entertainment, both among its MPs and MLAs. According to party sources, while some have performed remarkably well in their political duties, others have barely touched the mark.

Among the MPs, two names doing the rounds for almost being sure of getting tickets for the upcoming general election to the Lok Sabha are Nusrat Jahan and Satabdi Roy. Both reportedly have good backing from the party higher-ups.

But Mimi Chakraborty and Bengali films’ superstar Dev have been negligent in their work, both in Parliament and in their constituencies. Their attendances in the Lok Sabha are in the lower single digits.

As for the other big star, Shatrughan Sinha, he may not get selected as a candidate despite a reportedly strong backing from party supremo Mamata Banerjee. The name doing the rounds to take his place is singer Babul Supriyo, a former BJP MP from the same Asansol parliamentary constituency, and a current state cabinet minister.

It was after he resigned from the BJP that Sinha got selected to run from that seat on a Trinamool ticket, and then Supriyo was elected as an MLA from the Ballygunge assembly constituency. If reports are to be believed, the latter might just tilt the balance in his favour.

Of course, the ultimate hand for selecting the deck of candidates lies with Chairperson Mamata Banerjee and her all-India general secretary, and nephew, Abhishek Banerjee.
