September 20, 2021 | < 1 min read

Stamp duty and registration fee waivers, and various procedural and infrastructural assistance in the offing as part of state’s data centre policy

In order to develop Bengal as a hub of data handling and storage, the state government has decided to provide fiscal incentives like 100 per cent stamp duty and registration fee waivers for a period of five years to companies willing to set up data centre infrastructure in the state.

The government will also provide data centres with procedural and infrastructural assistance like easy approvals, self-certification, optimal use of land, optical fibre connectivity, quality power and water supply.

The detailed policy, including fiscal incentives and data centre storage sharing and electronic data retention guidelines, when published, will give a clear picture to the investors in this segment, said sources.

Reliance, Hiranandani Group, CtrlS and Nxtra have already shown interest in setting up data centres.

A policy to encourage innovation and new initiatives in the IT and ITeS sectors is also being considered.
