Bengal to accelerate bus, auto permits
The Bengal government has decided to expedite the processing of applications for bus and autorickshaw permits, as well as for new routes and modifications to existing routes, in order to meet the increasing demands for last-mile connectivity, particularly along newly established metro links.
A recent circular issued by the Transport Department mandates that board meetings of the Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) be convened every month to address all pending applications promptly.
Signed by the department’s secretary, Saumitra Mohan, the circular was shared with the department director, the Regional Transport Authority chairman and all district magistrates.
It contains a list of the services that the RTAs urged to prioritise for swift resolution. These services include the establishment of new routes, issuance of new permits, modifications to permit conditions and the cancellation and suspension of permits.
