June 8, 2023 | < 1 min read

Bengal election commissioner Rajiva Sinha today announced July 8 as the date for the panchayat election, with June 9 to 15 being the period for filing nominations and June 20 as the last date for withdrawing nominations.

The Bengal panchayat election will be held on July 8, the date announced a little while earlier at a press conference by the newly-appointed state election commissioner Rajiva Sinha.

While it will be a three-tier election across the state (gram panchayat, panchayat samiti and zila parishad), for Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts, it will be a two-tier election (gram panchayat and panchayat samiti, the Gorkha Territorial Administration being the equivalent of zila parishad).

The period for filing nominations is from June 9 to 15, while June 20 is the last date for filing nominations. The results will be declared on July 11.

As per rules of the election code of conduct, no meetings and processions will be allowed from 10 pm to 8 am.
