Bengal: GST collection increased 17% YoY in June

The year-on-year GST collection in June 2023 in Bengal has increased by 17 per cent—from Rs 4,331 crore to Rs 5,053 crore. According to economists, these figures testify to the strong economy of Bengal.

In the first two months of the current financial year (2023-24), April and May, the GST collection increased year-on-year by 14 per cent and 5 per cent, respectively.

Leather, cement, housing and a few other industries are doing very well in the state. In the MSME sector, Bengal is now counted among the top-performing states. These aspects are getting reflected in the GST collection.

The state government’s decision to exempt stamp duty has also had an impact on the economy. The state has taken several steps to ensure better collection of GST, including steps to to prevent GST evasion.
